Raya Max Releases Her Second Single!
Raya Max is a London-based Ghanaian-British singer and songwriter. She creates electrifying disco music with catchy melodies and a powerful groove. Her goal is to bring listeners' inner disco divas back to life following the miserable time we’ve had recently. She is passionate about giving you music that empowers you and inspires a spirit of joy!
The song Starlight is written, produced and sung by Raya Max herself. In Raya's songwriting, she uses a traditional soul song format. Her style is reminiscent of the greats Stevie Wonder and Rod Temperton. She also has studied the vocal stylings of Patti Labelle, James Brown and Tina Turner. Composers such as Quincy Jones made a huge impact on her as well the Motown days of the late 70s.
The Starlight lyrics are inspired by being liberated from having felt trapped and oppressed in an unhappy stage in her life. “We can go to music as a dreamland escape, a moment in time to just dance and forget everything.” she says and “Sisterhood can be a soul saver in those moments!” she exclaims.
She has incorporated her African musical heritage in the multi instrumental layers to create a dance floor classic with standout performances from gifted Afro-Caribbean musicians. Raya is also inspired by the innovative and creativity in the LGBTQ+ community and the flamboyance of London club culture. Raya radiates a fabulous energy and optimism. A fresh new voice for the UK disco soul music scene!
Raya Max follows up her acclaimed debut single ‘Starlight’ (featured on the brilliant BAFTA award winning ‘Alma’s Not Normal’ sitcom currently airing on BBC 2 and BBC iPlayer) with her latest feel-good single Classy Lady. Raya Max is the breath of fresh air we need to get our feel-good groove back in our step after this miserable year we’ve had. Raya caught the attention of music legends Tom Jones and Emeli Sande who described her as “Brilliant!” and “Wonderful!”respectively. Graham Norton described her as “Fantastic, just lovely!”
Classy Lady is written, produced, and sung by Raya Max herself to bring together her family’s Ghanaian influences. After being immersed in the explosive sounds of traditional West African live percussion in the warmth of Ghana - Raya brings this enigmatic instrumentation and polyrhythmic percussive layers to giveus an irresistible dance floor filler. Her intimate lyrics pay homage to all the wonderful soul sister’s that stick by us through the dark times;
“Whether it be your sister, girlfriend, teacher, aunty, mother or wife we all know that ‘Classy Lady’ in our lives who inspires us to bloom out the other side of a difficult time to a more joyful place!”

Raya songwrites and record produces her songs to bring together her families Ghanaian influences in her music. Raya’s paternal side of the family is from Kumasi Ghana, special occasions would be set to the explosive sounds of traditional live percussion! Her tribe performs variations on typical West African rhythms.

Before releasing her own music Raya toured extensively as a Jazz and gospel vocalist to Europe and America, performing solo to a sold out 10,000 arena audience at the Mandalay Bay arena in Las Vegas among others.

Throughout this time she studied the vocal styling’s of Patti Labelle, James Brown and the performance style of Tina Turner, Her popularity grew and she was booked on average 5 performances a week/250 performances a year over a number of years in London, Italy, Germany and Switzerland. In later years, as lead vocalist and musical director, she was able to perfect her musicianship and delivered fantastically engaging live shows.
